  • INPARS (Inland Pre-Arrival Review System). Customs clearance is received from Canada Customs upon arrival of the shipment at the destination terminal.
  • PARS (Pre-Arrival Review System) allows for release information to be processed upon arrival of goods at the border.
  • PAPS (Pre-Arrival Processing System) is designed to provide Customs Border Protection (CBP) with electronic cargo information to meet the Trade Act of 2002 requirements.

Paperwork Requirements for Shipments to/from Canada
The following documents and more are available online at ABF Forms & Documents.

  • Bill of Lading -- Please include the final consignee and destination, along with the broker information.
  • Commercial Invoice -- One original which will travel with the freight. This document should include the broker's name, shipper name, consignee name, the value of the freight, and country of origin.
  • NAFTA Origin -- For any freight manufactured in U.S. or Canada (January 1, 1994).
  • Certificate of Origin (January 1, 1994 NAFTA Origin) -- This document is only necessary if the goods being shipped were manufactured in the U.S. By providing a certificate of origin, your consignee's duties may be significantly reduced. If your company has established pricing programs for shipments within the Continental United States, additional programs may be available for your regular shipments into each of the Canadian Provinces.
